macOS app
Daylight
A free, offline ChatGPT alternative for your Mac. One click to install, and it runs the AI on your own machine.

Private by design
Daylight runs the model on your Mac, so your chats never leave it. Web search is off by default. If you turn it on, the search query goes to DuckDuckGo and the pages you open see your IP address.
No datacenters needed
There's no server in the middle. Daylight computes its replies on your Mac's GPU, so nothing is uploaded, there is no queue and no rate limit, and it keeps working with the Wi-Fi off.
Memory — it can grow with you
Daylight can remember durable facts about you and use them in later chats. It only saves one after you approve it, and everything lives in a plain Markdown file you can read and edit. Switch memory off and it stops remembering.
Set up in one click
Download, drag to Applications, open. Daylight checks your Mac, picks a model that fits its memory, and downloads it once. After that it works without a network.
It adapts to your Mac
Daylight picks the model that fits your Mac's memory and runs it on the GPU instead of swapping to disk. Smaller Macs get a smaller, faster model; Macs with more memory get a smarter one. You never have to choose a model yourself.
What's inside
Native on macOS
A SwiftUI app for Apple Silicon. No Electron, no browser engine, no web wrapper.
Runs locally
Qwen models run through a bundled build of llama.cpp, on your Mac's GPU through Metal.
Your chats stay with you
Conversations are saved as JSON files on your Mac. No account, no cloud, no sync.
Optional web search
Off by default. Turn it on and Daylight asks before each search, showing the exact query first.
Think harder
Flip on reasoning for a hard question, and read the model's thinking before the answer.
Free, no account
Download it and use it. There is no sign-up, no subscription and no usage limit.
